A Spot-The-Difference Tutorial
Since publishing my last post (a response to Brad Patterson’s Compare and Contrast blog challenge) several people have contacted me asking me to explain how to create spot-the-difference photos for pairwork activities. Here’s a quick step-by step video tutorial on how to do it.
Want to play around a bit more?
If you really want to go to town on on layering and erasing multiple photos, here’s a few examples of what can be done … they may be of limited teaching potential, but are fun none the less!
Three layers of photos
Eight layers of photos
Hope you find this useful!

Aha! Thanks for this – brilliantly simple.
I mostly use Paint.Net for my photo stuff, so I must check and see if I can use that eraser function.
Learned something new today, so thank you very muchly for that!
Cheers,

Thanks Ian. Really clear instructions which I’m hopefully going to follow as this would be great for my CAE preparation course. This idea of yours adds another dimension to exam practice!
Thanks again.

Many thanks, Matt! I thought you might like to do a “three-layer photo” of your balls! You do have three, don’t you?
Appreciate you dropping by,
Ian :-)

I can attest to the fact that matt has three balls… i mean, i saw him juggle them at Tesol France. Brilliant show !
Just catching this now. Simple and sweet. Didn’t know that you’d done it that way. Cheers, brad

Shame about that Kerry! I use a really old version of Photoshop as I can’t afford to upgrade. If I hear of an alternative, I’ll let people know! … And apologies for not replying earlier … you’ve probably noticed the blog’s on hold for a while. Back after Easter if all goes well!

Hey Ian, I think the Gimp might be a good *free* cross platform alternative.

Worth looking at especially if you don’t/can’t/won’t have photoshop. Should do it all and pretty much the same way.
Matt.

Thanks for that, Matt! Will certainly give it a try and pass on the message to Kerry (see above comment) … BTW, I hope it has nothing to do with Pulp Fiction!
